Bandera freshman Pace qualifies for State Golf Tournament

Bandera freshman Isabella Pace qualified for the UIL State Tournament after placing fifth overall out of 96 golfers, and third as an individual medalist at the Class 4A Region IV Golf Tournament in Victoria.
Pace shot a 75 in Round 1 before posting a 73 in Round 2 to secure her spot at the state tournament with a total of 148.
“There was a lot of pressure at the regional tournament and she did a good job of finding a way to compete through it,” Head Golf Coach Cody Carruthers said. “She finished the tournament with a birdie to seal the deal, and it was an amazing moment for all of us.”
Pace qualified for the regional tournament after scoring as the top individual medalist at the District 26-4A tournament. Her performance on Day 1 at regionals put her within striking distance of a state-qualifying position, and a strong front 9 holes on Day 2 helped create some breathing room on the leaderboard.
“She has handled every challenge this season with a great attitude and work ethic,” Carruthers said. “It’s a huge honor to qualify for the state tournament, and we’re excited about the opportunity for Bella to compete on such a big stage so early in her high school career.”
In preparation for the state tournament this week, Carruthers said practice will be aimed at staying in the moment and hitting one shot at a time. Pace will compete on Monday and Tuesday, April 28-29, at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland.
“Taking it one shot at a time will be the biggest key at state,” Carruthers said. “It’s a special opportunity to compete at the state tournament and she’s earned her spot among the best in Texas. If she embraces that mindset, she’ll put herself in a great position again.”
