The Bandera girls track and field team finished off a historic season at the 2025 UIL Class 4A State Meet on Thursday, tallying 24 points as a team to finish fifth overall.
The Bulldogs started the day with Kinlee Lawlis placing 4th in the long jump. Lawlis jumped 18-2 on her second attempt, finishing just behind Arieanna Jefferson (Ferris), Chiora Enyinna-Okeigbo (Sunnyvale) and Madison Cuplin (Marble Falls).
Bandera then competed in the 4x200m relay, and posted a time of 1:39.95 to place third. Merry Robinson, Milesia Casas, Sydney Moore and Lawlis were just seven-tenths of a second out of second place, finishing behind Tyler Chapel Hill and Brownwood. The Bulldogs were seeded 7th entering the race, but ran their fastest time of the year by over a full second to set a new school record for the fourth time this season.
“The relay team has been incredible all season,” Head Coach Brooke Ashcraft said. “To drop over a second and put together their best race on the biggest stage says everything about their heart and how hard they’ve worked. Breaking the school record again and earning a spot on the podium at the state meet – it doesn’t get much better than that.”
In the 200m dash, Lawlis rounded out the day with a 2nd place finish and a time of 23.94, just two tenths of a second behind Brownwood’s Kaya Phillips.
“Kinlee wrapped up a legendary high school career with another strong performance,” Ashcraft said. “She worked so hard to make her goals a reality, and she ran with confidence and represented Bandera with pride every step of the way. I’m so proud of everything she’s accomplished this year and can’t wait to follow all of her success at Angelo State in the future.”
The team’s finish at state was one of the best in school history, capping off an historic year that featured a number of school records broken almost on a weekly basis.
“This has been a special season,” Ashcraft said. “From the start, this group believed in themselves and bought into the process. They’ve set such a high standard, and I couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve accomplished together.”
