By Sara DeVries-Sandifer
MoMS Planning Committee Chair
Get ready for an exciting journey through time with the Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street (MoMS) exhibit, "Crossroads: Change in Rural America," on display in Bandera from June 21 to July 26, at the Bandera Middle School Cafetorium.
This prestigious event, a collaboration of the Smithsonian Institution, State Humanities Councils, and the Texas Historical Commission, is one of only seven selected in Texas. The exhibit is a fantastic opportunity to dive into the rich history and evolution of rural America. With themes like Identity, Land, Community, Persistence and Change, visitors will explore interactive displays that encourage thinking, talking, watching and listening. It's not just about looking back, it's about understanding how these changes shape our future.
Local organizations, including the Bandera County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Frontier Times Museum, Bandera Natural History and Art Museum, Bandera County Historical Commission, and many more are coming together to create unique exhibits and programs that tell Bandera County’s special history. Even those who have lived in Bandera their whole lives may discover new stories and insights.
Enthusiastic volunteers are needed to serve as docents at the Bandera Middle School and Pipe Creek Community Center. Be part of something special, learn new things, and help share our community's story. Volunteers will be vetted and trained to ensure a great experience for everyone.
Don't miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime event. For more information, call the Bandera CVB at 830-796-3045.
