Bandera County commissioners approved a proclamation declaring National Safe Boating Week. “You understand for us to approve this proclamation, you have to provide water,” County Judge Richard Evans jokingly added.
Local consideration for the nationally recognized week, May 17-23, was requested by U.S. Coast Auxilliary Member Charles Manley. A volunteer unit, the USCGAUX supports U.S. Coast Guard operations; provides vessel safety checks and boating courses; enhances the safety and security of U.S. ports, waterways and coastal regions; and assists in search and rescue operations.
National Safe Boating Week emphasizes boating and water safety ahead of Memorial Day weekend activities.
In other business, commissioners unanimously approved bids for five properties, four of which are in Lake Medina Shores, and one in Medina Hills Harbor. The bids ranged from 38 to 61 percent of the current land value, with only one meeting the total tax and court costs.
“It’s not ideal, but at least we’ll get them back on the tax rolls,” Pct. 4 Commissioner Jody Rutherford said.
