Bandera and Northside ISD to host Hill Country Stronger than the Storm 5K Fun Run/Walk
By Coach Brooke Ashcraft
Bandera ISD Assistant Athletic Director/BHS Cross Country Coach
When Tivy Cross Country Coach Dee Heiner shared that devastating floods in Kerrville would prevent Tivy High School from hosting its annual cross country meet on Sept. 27, organizers swiftly rallied.
Determined to support fellow athletes, Harper offered to host the race on Tivy’s behalf and return proceeds to the school’s cross country program. But one question changed everything: “Why stop there?”
That spark transformed the event into something greater—a community fun run and walk following the high school meet.
The Hill Country Stronger than the Storm 5K Fun Run and One-Mile Walk will be Saturday, Sept. 27, at Still Water Camps, in Harper. Bandera ISD athletes will run in the high school portion of the meet.
What began as saving a race became a mission to help the entire Hill Country rebuild and heal. Proceeds from race entries and commemorative T-shirt sales will go to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country to support families affected by the floods.
This is more than a race—it’s a Run for Resilience, uniting a community to rise stronger together.
Still Water Camps is at 2931 Fiedler Road, Harper. High school girls team race will begin at 8 a.m.; high school boys team race will begin at 8:30 a.m.; 5K Fun Run/One-Mile Walk will begin at 9 a.m. Fun Run/Walk $40 entry includes an event shirt, chip time, and participation medal.
