CPS Energy and AEP Texas propose transmission line routes in Bandera County
CPS Energy and AEP Texas are proposing to construct approximately 370 miles of new transmission infrastructure connecting the CPS Energy Howard Road Station in Bexar County to the AEP Texas Solstice Station in Pecos County, as part of the proposed Howard Solstice 765 kV Transmission Line Project. The project is intended to connect substations to support the regional electric grid. Multiple potential routes are being evaluated, some of which pass through portions of Bandera County.
The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) Board of Directors endorsed the Permian Basin Reliability Project as critical to the reliability of the ERCOT System in July 2024. The Public Utility Commission of Texas approved the 765kV transmission option on April 24, 2025.
According to the project website, CPS Energy and AEP Texas are accepting public feedback on potential routes. The stated deadline for submitting comments is Sept. 3.
