Bulldog defense delivers dominant shutout against Burbank

By Nick Salas
Bandera ISD Athletics

The Bandera Bulldogs traveled into San Antonio last night to take on the Burbank Bulldogs in the last scrimmage of the year. From the very first series, the Bandera defense set the tone for the entire night, refusing to give Burbank's offense any room by immediately putting points on the board.
On just the second defensive play of the game, senior defensive back Cash Raab delivered a perfectly timed deflection that sent the ball floating into the hands of Caleb Tippit. Tippit, with nothing but open field in front of him, returned it 35 yards to the end zone for a thrilling pick-six, giving the Bulldogs an immediate lead.
The defense was the true highlight of the game, keeping the Burbank Bulldogs off the scoreboard for four full quarters. The defensive line applied constant pressure, while the secondary controlled Burbank’s pass game.
The offense had plenty of moments to shine as well, with the running game and passing attack complementing the defensive effort. The first offensive touchdown was set up by a breakaway 50-yard rush from Juan Cabrera, who put the offense deep in Burbank territory. A few plays later, quarterback Dalton Parks capped off the drive with a five-yard scramble into the end zone in the first quarter. Parks continued to showcase his arm throughout the game, connecting with Jeffry Thomas for a huge 65-yard touchdown pass. The Bulldogs' final score of the night was an exciting 58-yard connection between Jake Cesta and Ian Prothro, a play that sealed the victory and highlighted the team's offensive depth.
It was a complete team effort, but the defense was undoubtedly the star of the show. The Bulldogs kick off their season this upcoming Friday, Aug. 29, with their first exhibition game of the year as they travel to Poteet to take on the Poteet Aggies. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The first home game is set for Friday, Sept. 5 vs. Ingram.
