If rocks could speak – a geologist’s view of the Texas Hill Country

The public is invited to attend a talk sponsored by the Texas Master Naturalist, Hill Country Chapter, being held in Fredericksburg on Monday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m.
The topic is If Rocks Could Speak – a Geologist’s View of the Texas Hill Country.
The rocks that make up the Texas Hill Country form a record of the last 1.2 billion years of Earth's geologic history. Listen to the tales these rocks might tell us as we take a virtual field trip along the area's roads and parks, and learn about the diverse environments that were here over the ages. Hear what early settlers thought when they first arrived in the Pedernales Valley and what an early German settler thought about the many fossil remains found there. Gain an increased appreciation for the abundant natural resources controlled in part by the geology that supports a thriving natural habitat for our plants and animals.
Dana Rowan earned a Master of Science in Geology from Arizona State University and worked as a petroleum geologist for 35 years. He and his wife Cheryl moved to Fredericksburg in 2017 to be close to family and enjoy the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
There is no charge to attend. The talk will be held in Fredericksburg this month at the A&M Agrilife Extension Service building, near the Fredericksburg airport.  Online attendance via Facebook livestream and Zoom are also available. If you wish to attend via Zoom, please pre-register using this link:

Doors will open at 6 p.m., with light refreshments served. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Chapter will hold its monthly business meeting, with the presentation by Rowan beginning at 7 p.m.
