Bandera Lady Bulldogs vs. Pearsall Lady Dogies, Week One

By Keleigh-shea Weatherson
7th & 8th Grade Volleyball, Basketball & Track Coach

7TH GRADE B TEAM:
The 7th grade B volleyball team defeated Pearsall in two games - 16 to 8 and 15 to 14. In a B team game, a big part of a team's success revolves around their ability to serve. Evangelina Rodriguez had 11 successful serves and Kayla Raab had four successful serves. Norma Moya, Dakota Bergfeld and Sayla Hayes helped their team out with solid passing. This was our first game and first win of the season.

7TH GRADE A TEAM:
The 7th grade A team volleyball team lost their season opener against the Pearsall Lady Dogies, with the scores of 25-22, 17-25 and 15-10. Even though we came up short in the end, they took Pearsall to three exciting sets. Stats: Lila Hicks: one dig, one kill and four aces. Kenzie Campbell: one dig and four aces. Marlene Tetzlaff: 3 aces. Avery Ashcraft: two kills and one assist. Harper Word: one dig and one ace. Everly Vander Zee: one dig and one ace. Abigail Wright: two kills. Trenlie Kocurek: one dig. Karlee Jaschke: one ace. Mackenzie Thompson, Liv O’Donnal, Ireland Young also contributed both defensively and offensively. They look to rally back against Carrizo Springs at home next Wednesday.

8TH GRADE B TEAM:
The 8th Grade B Team kicked off their season with an impressive victory, defeating their opponent in two straight sets, 20-8 and 20-11. The Bulldogs set the tone early with strong serving and great teamwork across the court.
Leading the way at the service line, Emma Spofford racked up an outstanding nine aces, while Aspen Collazo added five, June Flowers had six, and Hannah Lehman chipped in with one ace. At the net, both June Flowers and Hannah Lehman recorded a kill apiece, showing the Bulldogs’ ability to attack from multiple spots on the floor.
This was the Bulldogs’ first game of the season, and the energy, effort, and teamwork displayed on the court point to a bright future ahead. The team is ready to keep building momentum as the season continues.

8TH GRADE A TEAM:
Our volleyball girls traveled to Pearsall for our season opener to take on the Lady Dogies. The A Team won in two matches 25-15 and 25-15. After only four practices, these girls came out ready to play. We had hits at the net from Brenna Byrd, Sydney Bowman, Harper Hicks, Haisley Wright, Hailee Feller and Emily Short. Along with excellent sets from Colbie Lalanne and Harper Hartsfield. Serving stand outs were Kaycee Putney with four, Brenna Byrd with four and Colbie Lalanne with six. Harper Hicks, Harper Hartsfield and Mika Gray also contributed with one each. The girls even worked hard on hitting their spot serves. Harper Hicks threw up some hands with two big blocks. Natalie Hauer led in digs with four and assisting her was Karina Young, Harper Hartsfield and Brenna Byrd with three. Colbie Lalanne and Sydney Bowman contributed 1 each.
I am so proud of how these girls played and I can’t wait to watch them grow together. We look forward to taking on the Carrizo Springs Cats, Wednesday, Sept. 3, here in Bandera.
