Bulldogs dominate in season opener

Couldn’t ask for a better start to the year for the Bulldogs. In their first game of the year, they put on a dominant show, shutting out the Poteet Aggies with a final score of 52-0.
The offense was explosive from the start. Quarterback Dalton Parks had a sensational night, racking up 235 yards of total offense, Parks also accounted for five total touchdowns, four through the air and one with his legs. His favorite target, wide receiver Jeffry Thomas, was unstoppable, pulling in six catches for 133 yards and three touchdowns.
The ground game was just as effective, with Juan Cabrera leading the way with 101 rushing yards. He and Breydan Gherman formed a great speed and power duo in the backfield, keeping the Aggies' defense on its heels all night. The exclamation point on the victory came late in the game when Jake Cesta punched in a 1-yard touchdown run to seal the deal.
However, the headline of the night was the Bulldog defense. They were a wall, holding the Aggies to negative total yardage and pitching a shutout, proving to their 9-5-90 motto. The secondary unit was relentless, snagging five interceptions and making sure Poteet never had a chance to get on the scoreboard. Jaymin Klein led the secondary group with three interceptions, Beto Rodriguez added one, and Remi Galloway sealed the deal with the fifth takeaway of the night.
It was a total team effort defensively, Landon Popham, Jonah Klein, Dane Barnett, Kash Raab and the Cloudt brothers just to name a few, brought energy and effort all night long. It was a great start to the season, but there is always room for improvement.
The Bulldogs' next game is a whiteout themed game at home versus the Ingram Warriors on Friday, Sept. 5, at 7 p.m.
