Robert Marvin Salyers
July 15, 1956 ~ September 7, 2025
Bobby Salyers passed away peacefully at his home on the Courtney Mountain Ranch, in Bandera, on Sept. 7, 2025. Robert Marvin Salyers was born on July 15, 1956, in Corpus Christi, to Marvin and Ann Mireur Salyers, the youngest of five children. He graduated from Ray High School in Corpus Christi, and the Ranch Management Program at Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde.
Bobby and Lynn Hogan were married in September 1977; and within a month, Bobby received an offer from Bill Courtney to come to Bandera and manage his ranch.
Bobby loved being a father. He and Lynn had two children, Colleen and Hunter; and he was very proud of each of them. He worked hard to give them a childhood on the ranch that would be a good foundation for life as well as give them lots of happy memories, like chopping down a cedar tree for Christmas; taking the girls at Colleen’s slumber parties for a ride around the ranch at dusk, always passing by the grave of Edna Duke; picnicking and swimming in the river; learning to hunt – and skin and gut their own deer; learning to saddle and ride their own horse; and learning to feed and show animals.
Bobby met and married Margie Johnston Haseloff in 1993, and they created a blended family with Margie’s son Dustin, and Colleen and Hunter. They had almost 25 years together before Margie passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 6, 2018.
Bobby loved his job. He came as a young 21-year-old and was still employed by the ranch on the day he died. He and Bill Courtney had a great relationship, and Bobby always appreciated the freedom that Bill gave him to develop and run the ranch. The Courtney family adopted Bobby into their hearts, and he was a brother to Bill and Billie’s children and an uncle to their grandchildren.
Bobby was a great friend. He has friends he made in elementary school; friends like Buddy Byrd that he made the first year he arrived in Bandera; countless friends he made in Bandera over the past 48 years like Doug Hood; and friends he made who were customers of the ranch or through his travels to Belize. Bobby wasn’t just Hunter’s dad to Hunter’s friends. Independent of Hunter, those men are now Bobby’s friends as well. He was a great storyteller and just knew how to make people enjoy being with him.
Bobby met Jeri Stevens in 2019, and they fell in love with each other. Over the six years they spent together they had a lot of fun, creating good memories with family and friends and with each other. Jeri very lovingly made sure Bobby’s last days were as comfortable as possible and filled with light.
Bobby is survived by his daughter Colleen and her husband Sean Haley, and their children Maelynn and Riley of Bandera; his son Hunter and his wife Gabby, and their son Caleb of Kingsville; his son Dustin Haseloff and his wife Bianca, and their children Giuliana and Cullen of San Antonio; his partner Jeri Stevens of Bandera; his brother Jack and his wife Toni of Lumberton; his sister Ellen of New Braunfels; his sister Linda of Corpus Christi; many nieces and nephews; as well as cousins and their spouses and children and grandchildren; and many, many friends.
He is also survived by the members of the Courtney family – Sherrill and Bill Barker; Matt and Diana Barker; Brett and Shannon Barker; Suzanne Courtney; Chais and Robert Moore; Newton and Monica Hopkins; and Caitlyn and Blake Bonner.
When Clayton Stricker and Colton Sells came up to the ranch last fall after Bobby was diagnosed, Bobby said to them “Well, boys, it’s been a helluva of a ride.” Yes, it has been. Thanks for letting us be a part of it, Bobby. From all the people who love you.
