Bulldogs emerge victorious in thrilling matchup against Lytle Pirates

Bandera ISD Athletics
The Bandera Bulldogs remain undefeated, moving to a 3-0 record after a hard-fought 31-25 victory over the Lytle Pirates last night. The game was a true nail-biter, with momentum shifting back and forth throughout the night.
The Bulldogs started slow, but an explosive 65-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Dalton Parks to Jeffry Thomas ignited the offense and got Bandera back in the game. Head Coach Joel Fontenot-Amedee noted that while there were "some miscues on the first drive," he thought "we were pretty explosive offensively all night, particularly in the first half." He added that his guys "stick together and play for each other."
Quarterback Dalton Parks had a standout performance, completing 11 of 16 passes for 223 yards and adding 40 yards on the ground. The first half was a back-and-forth battle. After Lytle answered the Bulldogs' initial score, Parks connected with Jaymin Klein on a 53-yard touchdown pass. A successful two-point conversion run by Jake Cesta tied the game at 15. As the clock wound down in the first half, Klein delivered a clutch 41-yard field goal, giving the Bulldogs a 3-point lead and crucial momentum heading into the locker room.
In the second half, the Bulldogs' defense took control, holding the Pirates to just 3 points. The defense came up big when it mattered most, stalling Lytle’s game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter to secure the win. West Cloudt led the defense with 8 solo tackles, while Dane Barnett contributed 6 tackles of his own, and Jeffry Thomas also added on an interception that seemed to seal the deal for the Bulldogs. Amedee credited the defensive unit, stating, "We got stops in the second half that allowed us to win the football game. Statistically, we feel like if we hold a team to less than 25 points we’ve got a pretty good chance of winning the game."
Amadee also highlighted the team’s experience in close games, noting that the players and staff have "been through it over the years. We’ve played in more close games than blowouts. Those are the games that prepare us for district play and what we hope will eventually be playoff football." He concluded by stating, "Our guys fight for each other and believe in winning the fourth quarter."
This Friday, Sept. 19, the Bulldogs will be back in action at Bulldog Stadium, while also celebrating our veterans for Military Appreciation Night. The Bulldogs take on the Cole Cougars. Let's fill up the stadium Bandera, and be loud and proud!
