Winning week for Medina athletes

Last week proved to be a winning week for the Bobcats and Lady Cats of Medina ISD. The week began on Monday, Sept. 8, with the Junior High Lady Cats earning their first win of the season over Utopia. After splitting the first two sets, the Lady Cats gained momentum cruising to a quick 15-3 victory in the deciding, third set.
In high school volleyball action, the Lady Cats went 2-0 for the week defeating San Antonio’s Kipp Somos Academy and the Tigerettes from Brackettville. The Brackettville match was a back and forth battle that showcased the drive and resilience of the Lady Cats. When the match was completed, the Lady Cats had earned the win in a full 5 sets.
New head coach Chyna Phillips was pleased with the teamwork shown in the long match stating, “We did great. We relied on everyone and everyone worked. We had some tough sets, but overall so good.”
In football action, the Bobcats are now 3 and 0 on the season with another victory by mercy rule in the fourth quarter by a score of 87-37 over Incarnate Word Academy out of Corpus Christi. The game was not only played in front of the home fans, but was chosen at the Hill Country Nation “Game of the Week.” Incarnate Word was on the board first in the contest and was just the wakeup call needed for the Bobcats to up their intensity. That increased intensity resulted in defensive stops and Bobcat touchdowns to secure the win.
Head Coach Mark Coley credits his team and coaches for the successful night, “For us it’s a team effort. We feel good about the team effort tonight.”
Junior quarterback Davis Peterson was chosen by Hill Country Nation as the “Player of the Game.”
