The Bandera Bulldogs delivered a statement victory on Friday night, shutting out the Cole Cougars with a dominant 56-0 performance. The Bulldogs executed a game plan that was a direct result of their philosophy, a mindset instilled in the team well before they even took the field.
The atmosphere in the stadium was electric, and not just because of the impending victory. The night was also dedicated to celebrating our nation's veterans for their service to our country. In a powerful display of American pride, the student section was a sea of red, white, and blue, and the students did not disappoint, bringing an incredible energy that fueled the team all evening.
“We focus on us and our process. We are a one day at a time football team. We focus on each play and each day. You can’t be Friday good on Monday but hopefully by Friday the preparation adds up and we have won enough individual plays and days to be Friday ready on Friday night,” Head Coach Joel Fontenot-Amadee said.
That focus on preparation was evident from the very first snap. Quarterback Dalton Parks tossed a screen pass to wide receiver Jeffry Thomas on the opening play, and with exceptional blocking, Thomas broke into the open field and sprinted 70 yards for an opening touchdown.
The explosive play was the first of many, as the Bulldogs showcased a balanced attack. The Bulldogs' offense truly was a multi-headed monster, with Dalton Parks leading the charge by contributing four throwing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Seven players were targeted for a pass, with six of them securing a catch, and five players had a rushing attempt. Along with that, six different players found the end zone. Along with Dalton Parks and Jeffry Thomas, Juan Cabrera scored two touchdowns with his legs, Breydan Gherman put his speed
on full display with a huge 85-yard receiving touchdown, and Jaymin Klein had a 20-yard touchdown reception, as well.
“Play for each other and the ‘B’ on your chest," Fontenot-Amadee explained. "If you’re someone who plays a lot, the guys who don’t get to but practice their tails off deserve to play too. Finish off your time well so they can shine.”
On the defensive side of the ball, the Bulldogs were just as impressive, holding the Cougars scoreless for the entire game. The defense was not just about stopping opponents; it was about creating turnovers and scoring. The nail in the coffin came when the Bulldog defense created a fumble and Jonah Klein scooped it up and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown, a play that perfectly encapsulated the team’s overall dominance and commitment to winning every snap.
The Bulldogs are now 4-0 for the first time since 2023, with an opportunity to go 5-0 for the first time since 2019. The next Bulldog matchup is this upcoming Friday, September 26 when the Bulldogs take the short drive to Hondo to take on the Owls. Leading up to the game, the head coach set the stage with a clear message: "We are a process driven football team and program. Win each day, win the process of preparation. Friday is going to be a blast! Beautiful Berry Field is a place our kids are familiar with and they will be excited to go back there. Throw the records out, it's gonna be a slobber knocker!"
