After reviewing properties owned by the Bandera Economic Development Corporation, EDC members approved gifting Settlers Park, located at 2nd and Hackberry, to the City of Bandera.
“We could either sell it, or give it to the city. Either makes sense to me,” EDC Member Lynn Palmer said. “The EDC doesn’t need to hold on to it anymore.”
EDC Member Laura Devenport, the lone nay vote, suggested turning the 1.57-acre plot into a park/natural area.
“Yes, it does need clean up, which I think the city could do at little expense,” Devenport said.
EDC members also approved by unanimous vote converting .318 acres on Maple and 10th Streets into a parking lot, pending rezoning.
In other business, EDC members approved $10,000 for the City of Bandera Trail of Lights. Resident Rilla Stephens submitted by email her opposition to the expenditure, saying the money should instead be used to build upon the county courthouse light display.
Requesting $15,000 for the Bandera Disc Golf Course, Gareth Darling said several improvements had already been made, and more are scheduled.
“We built three new tees…three more holes are left, and work on those will be completed by the end of the year,” Aaron Grant, leader of the Disc Golf Club, said.
Bandera City Council members, who must approve any EDC expenditure exceeding $10,000, approved the first readings of both resolutions during tonight’s regular meeting.
