Bandera Bulldogs take down the Hondo Owls

By Coach Ricardo Mata
Bandera ISD Athletics

The Bandera Bulldogs hit the road to Barry Stadium in Hondo, Texas, where they faced the Owls in an action-packed night of football.

7A Bulldogs – Victory, 16-0
The 7th grade A-team set the tone early, maintaining control of the ball throughout the first half. Elijah Coloney, Branden Delaney, and Aiden Rush powered the run game, while Mark Hinojosa, Jett Lagedrost, and Jayden Saucedo provided strong blocking up front. The defense, led by Accillies Pelio-Dillon, Branden Delaney and Ty Heiner, held firm in the third quarter, keeping the Owls scoreless.
With less than a minute left in the fourth quarter, Delaney broke free for a 60-yard touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion from Rush to put Bandera up 8-0. Moments later, Jagger Hodge sealed the win with a pick-six, and another Rush conversion brought the final score to 16-0.

8A Bulldogs – Last-Second Thriller, 22-16
The 8th grade A-team pulled off a nail-biting finish against Hondo. Early in the first quarter, the Bulldogs marched downfield behind the efforts of Cody McCarthy, Connor Popham, Shaylon Garcia, Dylan Spangler, Case Thaler, Noah Esters and Jeremiah Guerra. The Owls scored first, going up 8-0, but McCarthy answered with a 20-yard touchdown run, closing the gap to 8-6.
In the third quarter, McCarthy connected with Jacob Tetzlaff for another touchdown, giving Bandera the lead, 12-8. Hondo responded with a score of their own, shifting the advantage back to the Owls, 16-12. But the Bulldog defense—powered by David Guerra, David Delarosa, Tetzlaff, and an interception from Jake Perez—held strong down the stretch.
With just six seconds left, Lake Battle found McCarthy in the end zone to put Bandera back on top. The kickoff team sealed the 22-16 victory in dramatic fashion.

7B/8B Bulldogs – Strong Showing in Scrimmage
Both B-teams squared off against Hondo in scrimmage-style matchups, showing great progress on both sides of the ball. The 7B Bulldogs allowed only one Owl touchdown while scoring three of their own, highlighted by passes from William Volkmer to Samuel Guel and Blaise Quintero, along with a rushing score from Owen Cordell.
The 8B Bulldogs also displayed offensive strength, with standout performances from Jonah Smith, Emmitt Grub and Haeden Salas. Defensive standouts were Tourque Hamilton, Cooper Lee and Kyle Whitebeard.
