Bulldogs remain undefeated on senior night
By Nick Salas

The Bandera Bulldogs kicked off their district schedule in spectacular fashion Thursday night, dominating the Pearsall Mavericks with a commanding 49-7 victory at home. The win moves Bandera to 1-0 in district play and an even more impressive, 7-0 overall for the season.
The atmosphere was electric as the Bulldogs celebrated Senior Night, honoring their graduating class before the game.
“I've reached out to the keepers of Bandera history, and the best information I could get, is that this is the best start since 1984. The first time Bandera has been 7-0 since 1984. More importantly, 1-0 in district play and we are fired up. Senior night is always a special night where we get to celebrate all of our seniors and what they have meant to our program. This is such a special group of seniors, and it was fitting for them to perform as well as they did on Thursday,” Coach Fontenot-Amedee said about his senior group and their legacy.
The Bulldog’s philosophy for success was evident in the box score.
”We believe that in order to win football games you have to run the football offensively and stop the run defensively," Fontenot- Amedee said. "Our offensive line has absolutely come to play and dominated the last two weeks. Juan is our bell cow and the more you feed him the better he performs! All of our backs are proven runners. They are really finding their strides and understanding their different roles within our offense at the right time of the year. Each one of those guys are very explosive football players; we are lucky to have that three-headed monster (Juan Cabrera, Breydan Gherman and Dalton Parks). Also, JT with another multi-touchdown week is huge for us."
Indeed, Bandera's offense was a relentless machine, powered by that dominating offensive line that owned the line of scrimmage all night, paving the way for an explosive running game that racked up over 400 yards on the ground. Running back Juan Cabrera was the primary beneficiary, eclipsing the 200-yard mark for the second week in a row with 202 yards rushing on the night. Quarterback Dalton Parks had another stellar outing, accounting for four total touchdowns, running for two scores and tossing two others through the air, both to receiver Jeffry Thomas who finished the game with 100 yards receiving. To cap off the scoring, Junior RB Ruffin Scartocci, took the handoff and took off on a 71 yard touchdown run to put the nail in the coffin on Thursday Night.
Not to be overshadowed, the Bandera defense was equally outstanding.
"Defense and special teams were lights out last night! Very proud of how we stayed connected as a defense and truly executed another great game plan," Fontenot-Amedee said.
Their performance, which overpowered the Mavericks' offense and held Pearsall to a single touchdown for the entire contest, proved once again that they are a force to be reckoned with. Jonah Klein and Remington Galloway led the Bulldog defense with 7 and 4 solo tackles respectively.
The Bulldogs have established themselves as a true contender in district as they dive deeper into their schedule. This week is a bye week for the team, giving them a chance to rest and prepare.
"We will keep the momentum by staying grounded during the bye week and getting back to the basics. We will focus on improving on fundamentals next week. We have an opportunity for improvement and our guys will accept the challenge!" Fontenot-Amedee said.
The next Bulldog matchup is on Friday, Oct. 24, when the undefeated Bulldogs travel to Devine to take on the Warhorses at 7 p.m.
