The Bandera Middle School Bulldogs faced off against the San Antonio Academy Wildcats on Oct. 16 in another exciting week of football. Both grade levels left it all on the field, with the 7th Grade A Team remaining undefeated and the 8th Grade team putting up a strong fight.
7th Grade A Team: Bulldogs Stay Perfect Heading Into Devine
The Wildcats struck first in the opening quarter with a long touchdown pass, but the Bulldogs answered quickly. Branden Delaney broke free for a 58-yard touchdown run, then powered in the 2-point conversion to take the lead, 8–6.
The Wildcats responded on the next drive, going up 14–8 after a successful conversion. The Bulldogs’ defense, led by Jett Lagedrost, Elliot Rodriguez, and Jagger Hodge, tightened up in the second quarter, stopping the Wildcats’ momentum. Before halftime, Delaney added another touchdown on a 15-yard run, tying the score at 14–14. Hodge ended the half with a clutch interception to keep the Bulldogs fired up.
In the second half, Bandera’s defense completely shut down the Wildcats, while the offense kept rolling. Delaney broke loose again in the third quarter for a 70-yard touchdown, putting the Bulldogs ahead for good. Urijah Reynolds sealed the victory with a key interception late in the fourth quarter, securing the Bulldogs’ undefeated record. Final score 20-14.
Shoutout to the hardworking offensive line—Mark Hinojosa, Jayden Saucedo, Levi Reyes, Brayden Konvicka, and Jett Lagedrost—for paving the way for the offense all night long.
8th Grade Team Fights Hard but Falls Short
The 8th Grade Bulldogs came out strong, scoring first on a 2-yard run from Conner Popham, followed by a successful extra point from Sam Postert to take an early 7–0 lead.
The Wildcats struck back with a touchdown pass, but the Bulldogs quickly answered when Cody McCarthy connected with Jacob Tetzlaff for a 58-yard touchdown. McCarthy then ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 15–8.
Led by Daniel Cale, Case Thaler, and Gattlyn Inmon, the Bulldog defense made a big stop, which set up another score — a 4-yard touchdown run by McCarthy, putting Bandera up 21–8. Before halftime, the Wildcats rallied to cut the lead to 21–16.
The third quarter proved tough for Bandera, as the Wildcats scored twice to take the lead. Despite a late push, including another touchdown and 2-point conversion from McCarthy, the Bulldogs fell short with a final score of 29–38.
Next Up: Devine Showdown
The Bulldogs hit the road to face Devine. The 7th Grade Bulldogs will look to keep their undefeated streak alive, while the 8th Grade team is determined to bounce back and fight for a well-deserved win.
