Medina celebrates Hocoween in winning fashion

By Lindsey Kunz
Medina ISD Athletics Director/Superintendent

Medina Homecoming weekend could not have been scripted better than reality for the Medina community. The festivities began with the annual tailgate party, community pep rally and lighting of the “M” on Wednesday night, Oct. 29, with seniors Lilyan Voight and Mike Bogorad chosen as the Football Sweetheart and Cheer Beau.
Thursday saw the Lady Cats travel to Three Rivers for a Bi-District Championship volleyball match versus the Redfish from Austwell-Tivoli High School. The Lady Cats came out strong and sealed the victory in straight sets to become 2025 Bi-District Champions.
On Friday, the evening began with the highly anticipated crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King. Seniors Kailey McCabe and Ty Jones were selected by their peers for the honor. Following the coronation, the Bobcats took the field at 7 p.m., in a must-win game to secure their own playoff berth. A touchdown for each team in the first minutes had the Medina fans on the edge of their seats. Fortunately, the Bobcats answered time and time again to complete the game early in the third quarter by 6-man mercy rule. The final score was Medina 75, Leakey 30.
The final Homecoming day was on Saturday with the annual parade, carnival, alumni reception and student Hocoween dance. The Medina community came out in full force to enjoy the festivities and honor the classes of 1956, 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996, 2006 and 2016. From a dunking booth to a bounce house to a ring toss, there was something for everyone to enjoy and celebrate the victorious week.!
Next action for Medina athletics is on Tuesday, Nov. 4, with the Lady Cats traveling to George West to play San Perlita for the Area Championship.
The Bobcats are open this Friday but will play the following week (Nov. 13, 14 or 15) for the Bi-District Championship. Time and opponent are still to be determined.
