Join Bandera Honors Veterans on November 8
The United States is often considered the oldest continuous democracy, with its Constitution ratified in 1788. This federal presidential constitutional republic has been protected and defended by military personnel for 250 years. They swore an oath to “support and defend” the Constitution of the United States.
America250 will commemorate the 250th anniversary of our founding, culminating on July 4, 2026. Bandera County will celebrate and honor our military and veterans on Nov. 8, with family and military displays, information booths, a ceremony, a parade, and culminating with a free veterans and spouses barbecue.
The 23rd Bandera Honors Veterans celebration will feature U.S. Army Brigadier General, retired, Steven Salazar. He served 36 years as an infantry officer with his final command in Europe, where he led training efforts supporting the European and Africa Commands, partnering with 39 nations to advance international security. BG Salazar commanded the Coalition Advisory Team in Iraq and the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division in Diyala Province, Iraq.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Army War College, and the Australian Staff College. His decorated career includes multiple Defense Superior Service Medals, Legion of Merit awards, Bronze Stars, and he is Ariborne, Ranger qualified with a Combat Infantry Badge. Post-retirement, he founded the 360 Military Veterans Partnership (360MVP) supporting veterans and their families.
Everyone is invited to participate at the Bandera County Courthouse and along the parade route. Family and military displays will be open at 9:30 a.m. This year, the TEXAS HMMWV group will have these hard-working trucks on display. The tribute to veterans and their families featuring the San Antonio Pipes and Drums, local musicians, and General Salazar begins at 10:30 a.m. Immediately following the ceremony, veterans can get on the large float on Pecan Street to lead the parade. The parade will depart Bandera City Park and be on Main Street by noon. It will return to the courthouse for the Veterans and spouses barbecue at 1 p.m.
