Lister secures state championship berth; Bandera High School girls powerlifting shines at regional meet

The Bandera High School girls powerlifting team traveled to the Bert Ogden Arena on March 3 to compete in the THSWPA Region 5 Championships. Facing the top lifters in the region, the Lady Bulldogs delivered a standout performance highlighted by personal records and a State-qualifying finish.
Lister Punches Ticket to State
Junior Ruby Lister led the charge for Bandera, securing a 2nd Place silver medal in a tightly contested divisional battle, missing the top spot by a mere 15 pounds. Lister posted an elite 925 lb. total, featuring a personal best 415 lb. squat, a 175 lb. bench press, and a 335 lb. deadlift. By hitting the state-qualifying total and finishing on the podium, Lister has officially advanced to the THSWPA State Championships.

The Lady Bulldogs saw impressive growth across the roster at the regional level:
Ruby Lister will return to Edinburg during Spring Break to represent Bandera at the State Championships. The coaching staff expressed immense pride in the team's dedication and the "PR-heavy" performance at the regional meet.

- Emily VanDeWalle: Finished 7th overall with a 620 lb. total. VanDeWalle set personal records in every category, including a 235 lb. squat, 135 lb. bench, and a 250 lb. deadlift.
- Eva Le: Finished 6th overall with a 505 lb. total. Le’s performance was highlighted by a 215 lb. squat and a personal best 185 lb. deadlift.
