Authorities investigating death of Bandera County Jail inmate
The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of an inmate while in custody at the Bandera County Jail.
According to Sheriff Josh Teitge, the Bandera County Jail staff was speaking with the inmate, who while stating they were not feeling well, collapsed in front of the staff members.
Teitge said jail staff immediately began CPR until emergency medical services personnel arrived and continued treatment efforts, but they were unable to revive the inmate.
Bandera County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigators and the Texas Rangers were notified and responded. The Texas Jail Commission requires an outside agency lead the investigation for all in-custody death investigations. The Bandera County Sheriff’s Office requested support from the Texas Rangers.
No information about the inmate, including identity, is being released at this time.
Teitge said the jail follows a combination of standards set by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards and local standard operating procedures when responding to medical incidents. These standards are subject to inspection by the commission, and the Bandera County Jail passed its most recent inspection last month.
