Countywide burn ban lifted

Though the countywide burn ban is lifted, authorities strongly urge residents to register with the Bandera County Sheriff’s Office before lighting up.
According to the Keetch-Byram Drought Index, Bandera County is 200-400. The KBDI is based on daily water balance, where drought factor is balanced with precipitation and soil moisture. The closed system ranges from 0 to 800, where 0 represents a saturated soil, and 800 an absolutely dry soil.
Texas A&M Forest Service uses KBDI for determination of drought conditions within the state, and as of May 1, the Fire Preparedness Level was lowered to 1 of 5, due to improved wildfire conditions across the state.
