Bandera County recycling group honored by commissioners

Don’t Make Waste Bandera volunteers were honored by Bandera County commissioners for their 2025 recycling efforts, and 15 years of partnership with Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep Texas Recycling. Last year, DMWB collected 54 tons of recycling; and saved 793 trees, 85k kw hours, 365k gallons of water, 591 yards of landfill space, 465k pounds of air pollution, 238 barrels of oil, and an estimated $2,278 in landfill fees.
DMWB made the finals list for the BEC Foundation Member Choice Award. Voting will continue through May 22. The winner of the contest will receive $5,000. To vote, go to banderaelectric.com.
“They have worked tremendously to get this place cleaned up and keep it running. Y’all have done a phenomenal job,” Pct. 1 Commissioner Troy Konvicka said on behalf of DMWB liason Pct. 4 Commissioner Jody Rutherford, who has been home recovering from health issues.
~ In other business, Texas Randall, with Bandera County EMS, reported that in February, EMS received 237 calls for service, EMTs traveled 12,850 miles, the tone to en route average time was 1.59 minutes, the tone to on scene average time was 11.09 minutes. The call volume by percentage in each zone was: 40 - greater Bandera area, 18 - City of Bandera, 14 - Lakehills, 13 - Pipe Creek, 8 - Lake Medina Shores, 4 - Medina, 3 - Holiday Villages/Medina County, and 1 - Tarpley.
In March, EMS received 290 calls for service, EMTs traveled 15,097 miles, the tone to en route average time was 1.30 minutes, the tone to on scene average time was 11.56 minutes. The call volume by percentage in each zone was: 37 - greater Bandera area, 19 - City of Bandera, 17 - Pipe Creek, 13 - Lakehills, 8 - Lake Medina Shores, 3 - Medina, 2 - Holiday Villages/Medina County, and 1- Tarpley.
~ Bandera County Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager Carita Jundt said plans continue for the Bandera County Fair, which is set for Oct. 8-10, at Mansfield Park.
~ Bandera County commissioners next regular meeting will be Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m., at the Bandera County courthouse. Among the agenda items, commissioners are expected to hear from Texas Department of Transportation San Antonio District Engineer Charles C. Benavidez on safety deficiencies on Hwy. 46 between Bandera and Kendall counties.
