To keep up with growth in Bandera and Bandera County, Bandera Fire and Rescue is trying to grow, too. Currently located on Main Street, in a fire house with a small office and five bays at maximum capacity, the station’s need for expansion is becoming urgent.
According to Bandera Fire and Rescue President Ellen Cummings, the goal is to acquire property to build a sub-station, where training classes may be organized with other fire departments. She said an ideal spot, which is property owned by Bandera County, is behind the current fire station.
“It would make a great location,” Cummings said, adding the department has been looking for and researching land for about six years, and grants are lined up to fund a new building. “Our department has about 30 members, all with jobs and families. We do as much as we possibly could for our community, which is a lot of sacrifice that we do for free. We are just looking to our community and the county to help us.”
