Woman’s body recovered after her car was swept away by flood waters

The body of a woman reported missing this morning has been recovered. Bandera County Sheriff Josh Tietge said her car was located at approximately 4:30 p.m., several miles downstream from where it was swept away by flood waters. The woman was still inside the vehicle, which was completely submerged.
Tietge said she called 911 at approximately 5:30 a.m. this morning, after she lost control of her vehicle in high- and fast-moving water near Lower Mason Creek Road. She said she was unable to exit her vehicle, which was floating downstream at a high rate of speed.
“911 operators maintained contact with the caller for several minutes until the call disconnected most likely due to water infiltration into the vehicle. Prior to disconnecting, 911 operators were successful in pinging her cell phone location, providing sheriff’s deputies and fire personnel her last known location,” Tietge said.
A search of the area was immediately initiated by Bandera County first responders, the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department and TxDPS Air Unit.
“The driver was recovered from inside the vehicle but, unfortunately, succumbed to the trauma of the event,” Tietge said.
