8th grade Bulldogs open season with 34–22 victory over Lytle
By Tiffany Pierce

The Bandera Bulldogs 8th grade Football Team opened the 2026 season in exciting fashion Thursday night, Sept. 10, taking down the Lytle Pirates, 34–22, in a hard-fought battle.
The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. On their opening drive, Branden Delaney broke loose for a 30-yard touchdown run to give Bandera the early lead. Great blocking from Ty Heiner and Mason Esters helped the Bulldogs move the ball down the field.
Bandera's defense was just as impressive, standing strong throughout the game. Mark Hinojosa, Jett Lagedrost, and Elliott Rodriguez helped anchor a Bulldog defense that kept the Pirates' offense under pressure.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs added to their lead when Kohl Kissee connected with Jagger Hodge on a 15-yard touchdown pass. Jack Postert followed with the extra point to extend the Bulldog advantage.
Bandera struck again before halftime when Elijah Coloney found Kohl Kissee for a 12-yard touchdown pass, giving the Bulldogs even more momentum heading into the second half.
The Pirates came out fighting in the third quarter, scoring their first touchdown of the game to make the score 21–8. Bandera quickly answered, however, as Aiden Rush exploded for a 52-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs back in control.
Lytle continued to battle, but Rush and the Bulldogs had the final say. Rush scored his second touchdown of the night on a 25-yard run, helping the Bulldogs secure the 34–22 season-opening victory.
The Bulldogs showed great teamwork, physicality, and determination in their first game of the season. With contributions from both sides of the ball, Bandera got off to a strong start and will look to build on the victory next week.
