The Bandera Bulldogs continued their strong start to the 2026 season Friday night, dominating the Lytle Pirates 63–0 at Bulldog Stadium.
After a lightning delay of more than an hour, the Bulldogs came out ready to play and delivered their most complete performance of the season.
Bandera wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. On the Bulldogs' opening offensive drive, quarterback Dalton Parks broke loose for a 56-yard run, setting up Breydan Gherman to cap the two-play drive with a 17-yard touchdown run.
Gherman continued to lead the Bulldogs' rushing attack, finishing the night with 127 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Parks also made a major impact on the ground, rushing for 136 yards.
Through the air, Parks added two touchdown passes, connecting with Jaymin Klein and Hayden Drefke for scores. David Gutierrez, Carter Hanks and Ruffin Scartocci also found the end zone as the Bulldogs' offense put together a 63-point scoring showcase.
Head Coach Joel Fontenot-Amedee credited the entire offense, particularly the offensive line, for setting the tone.
“The first half was the best football we have played collectively, in all 3 phases of the game this year. Offensively, we were clicking on all cylinders. It always begins and ends with the big boys up front. They made some big holes to run through Friday,” Fontenot-Amedee said.
While the offense was putting points on the board, the Bandera defense continued its dominant start to the season, recording its second consecutive shutout.
The Bulldogs held Lytle scoreless throughout the night, with Taylor Hill leading the defense with seven total tackles. Hill also recovered a fumble that was forced by Jaymin Klein and Ian Prothro.
Fontenot-Amedee said the defense's success came from every player doing his job.
“We did our job. Every piece of the puzzle fit like it was supposed to. We have some really good and experienced football players on defense who do a great job for us consistently,” he said.
The Bulldogs have now won two straight games and are building momentum as the season moves closer to district play. But the team's focus remains on improving one day at a time.
“Our focus is always on us and getting better. We are going to try to Win the day on Monday and then stack good days on good days. If we do that, we will be successful on Friday,” Fontenot-Amedee said.
The Bulldogs also received tremendous support from the Bandera community, with fans, parents, band members, cheerleaders and dance team members staying through the lengthy lightning delay to support the team.
“Thank you to all of the fans, parents, band members, cheerleaders and dance team folks who stuck around after the lightning delay! It was a great crowd Friday night!” Fontenot-Amedee said.
With the victory, Bandera improves to 2–1 on the season and will hit the road next week. The Bulldogs will travel to Ingram Tom Moore High School on Friday, Sept. 18, as they look to make it three straight victories.
