Today in Texas HistoryOn this day in 1942, Del Valle Army Air Base was activated. The facility was constructed on 3,000 acres of land donated by the city of Austin. It was renamed Bergstrom Field Nov. 11, 1943, in honor of Capt. John A. Bergstrom, the first Austinite killed in World War II.

Bandera native takes Navy-wide advancement exam aboard USS Ronald ReaganMass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Keith Knisely, of Bandera, recently took the Navy-wide advancement exam. Knisely was onboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), while in-port Naval Base Kitsap, in Bremerton, Washington.
