Give Me Nine?

Sit back on the couch, get all comfy and close your eyes. No wait. Don’t do that because you need to read. Concentrate on the “you” way back in third grade. Just 9, but young enough to be struggling with learning long division while not having a worry in the world because all the clothes you try on magically fit and make you look great.

Guest Editorial

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the New York premier of a very special documentary called Zzaslow K427 produced by U.S. Army Veteran Robert Ham of HAMMR Productions. I had seen this documentary already during its very first showing at JBSA-Lackland, but the location and who I was with made all the difference. This documentary was about a very special dog, named for a very special man who lost his life less than three miles from where this film was shown when airplanes became weapons and the war on terror began. On that day a cloudless sky became filled by a cloud of falling towers. As the towers fell so did the tears of Adam Zaslow whose father Ira was lost that day.

Sublime Rambling
Uncle Mark and Aunt Ethel

Uncle Mark and Aunt Ethel were always in my life and I have many fond memories of them. Mark was Dad’s brother and they would come to visit us, my parents, younger brother Jim and me, every year. My uncle was known to be tight with his money and it had become a family joke. Each year he would tell Jim and me that he would take us to the Dairy Queen to get ice cream cones. Back then ice cream cones only cost a nickel each so the joke was that uncle Mark was one of the last of the big spenders.

Growing Up In Bandera

It irritates me no end that some people claim they want to keep Bandera unchanged as they plow ahead with developing more and more of the natural area along our river. Someone who was raised in a concrete jungle will never understand what life was like for a kid running free on the banks of the Medina River back in my day.

"On Dec. 3, 2021, our lives were changed forever, when our 24-year-old son was involved in a head-on collision. He was airlifted to BAMC that night, and began his fight for life. Although my son is not in the military, the amount of support he received from this wonderful group of folks has been humbling."
