The Bandera Prophet
There’s only one day left to shine your boots and pick up the dry-cleaning. The Memorial Day Weekend Stampede PRCA Rodeo kicks off tomorrow to launch three nights of rompin’ and stompin’ in the Mansfield Park arena.
Produced by the Bandera ProRodeo Association for the fifth year and running, in collaboration with RafterG Rodeo, this year’s event “raises the bar for rough stock.” RafterG, reputed for being the “source for top livestock [and] the best entertainers in the business,” has also produced the Fort Worth Rodeos for more than 50 years.
Announcer Doug Mathis will introduce each contestant and lead entertainer Justin Rumford, winner of the 2018 Coors Man in the Can award and the Clown of the Year award. This year’s events include bareback riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, barrel racing, saddle bronc riding, team roping, calf roping, mutton bustin’ and the calf scramble.
Gates open at 6 p.m. each night beginning Friday, May 24 through Sunday, May 26. Sign ups for mutton bustin’, a cowboy childhood must, are also at 6 p.m. Grand Entry is at 8 p.m.
Entry fees are $12 for adults; $6 for children ages 6-12; children 5 and under are free. No charge for veterans, active military and American Legion with valid ID. Friday night, Bandera High School seniors are free with their student IDs. Those who participate in the Grand Entry will receive two free admissions each night they ride. Be mounted and at the arena at 7:30 p.m.
