Bandera City Council fills vacant EDC seat

Bandera City Council members filled the last vacant seat on the Economic Development Corporation last Thursday. In a 4-1 vote, Rhonda Carrell was approved as the third member to complete the board.
During their May 23 meeting, city council members reviewed the seven applicants and appointed two, leaving a third available seat open. Laura Devenport and Toni Kunz, both of whom were recommended by the current EDC members, were approved. Sid Gibson, the EDC’s third recommendation, garnered a little more discussion.
Council Member Glenn Clark moved to appoint Carrell, however the vote was stalled after Council Member Rebeca Gibson read aloud an email from Carrell indicating she felt more qualified candidates had applied. Council Member Tom McEachin, also an EDC board member, said that while he felt Sid Gibson would bring experience to the group, Carrell would bring new blood and perspective.
“They’re both excellent choices,” McEachin said.
Last Thursday, Council Member Lynn Palmer’s motion to appoint Vicki Browning failed to pass with Clark, McEachin and Gibson opposed. Her next motion to appoint Carrell carried, with Gibson opposed.
Each of the seven seats on the EDC carries a two-year term. Other members of the board are Art Crawford, Cindy Harrington and Andrea Cavanaugh.
