Through the Grapevine

Kids and seniors rock

By Vicki L. George

The Lakehills Area Library is continuing the summer reading program for the kiddos. The theme is “A Universe of Stories” and it is not too late to join. The next meeting is Wednesday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m., and the youngsters will build their own telescopes. Go by the library at 7200 FM 1283 to sign up. For more information, call 830-510-2777.

ALAMO RCD

The Alamo Resource Conservation & Development Area, through its Senior Assistance Program, will host their first Senior Social event in the Faith Tabernacle Fellowship Hall, 7789 FM 1283, on Friday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The theme is “Independence Day,” and July birthdays and anniversaries will be celebrated. Lunch is provided free to seniors and by donation to others. All are invited to come, bring friends, and share in the fun, food, door prizes, games and socializing. Please RSVP by July 17 by calling 210-548-9248 or emailing alamorcd@gmail.com.

AMERICAN LEGION

The Legion’s 100th Anniversary year will culminate with a Centennial Celebration Dinner on the actual anniversary date of Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Legion Hall. Final plans are still in the works.
However, I now know that there will be a drawing on that evening for some very nice prizes: First Prize is a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta. It was donated “as is” but it runs and its value is $2,000.
Second Prize is an American Legion Centennial Coin Set. This collectors set is specially designed for the Legion’s Centennial and is valued at $525.
Third Prize is a MasterCard Gift Card worth $250.
The Legion, Post 410, is selling tickets now. They are one ticket for $10 or three tickets for $25.
Winners do not need to be present to win.
The Legion Hall is located at 147 26th St. in Lakehills. For information, call 830-751-3711.

LOCAL VBS

Hill Country Chapel will hold a VBS, “In The Wild,” July 15 to 19, at the church, 886 Mountain View Lane, Pipe Creek, from 9 a.m. to noon, for grades one through five. To sign up, call Melissa Morris at 830-510-4731.

LAKE AND RIVER

On Thursday, July 11, our Medina Lake level was 1064.11 feet. That is down 0.09 feet, which is 99.8 per cent capacity.
The Medina River had a flow of 60.1 cfs in Bandera, running 4.17 feet deep at the gage.
