Bandera County 4H Shotgun Team recognized statewide

Almost 800 competitors converged on the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio last week to compete in the 2019 Texas 4-H Shooting Sports State Games. In that crowd were 14 members of the Bandera 4-H Shotgun team and they had a very good outing over the four days of competition.
Individually and combined into two and three man teams, Jacob Cameron, Riley Beckham, Kayli Beckham, Billy Browning, Josh Dean, Rowdy Dean, Cooper Dorries, Presley Dorries, Lukas Jackson, Tanner Kaples, Garrett Meier, Lauren Meier, Ashton Robinson, and Coleton Trenkelbach represented Bandera and Bandera County well, winning the following awards.
In the Senior ll Division, club president, Jacob Cameron, shot two perfect 100 out of 100 scores and as a result was named State Skeet Champion and State Trap Champion. With those scores, he was also crowned State HOA (High Overall) Champion.
In Senior Division l, Riley Beckham and Lukas Jackson, teamed up for a first place in Two-Man American Skeet and a third in Two-Man American Trap. Jackson, the club's treasurer, also placed third in the Whiz Bang competition.
Garrett Meier, the 4-H County Council Delegate, placed fifth in Whiz Bang and sixth overall in the Gunsmoke competition.
In Ladies Intermediate, Lauren Meier placed sixth place HOA in American Events and 11th overall in Gunsmoke.
Presley Dorries, club secretary, was crowned the division's state champ in American Skeet and earned the State HOA Championship in American Events.
She also placed third HOA in International Events, third in International Skeet, fourth in Whiz Bang and tied for fifth in American Trap.
Kayli Beckham, Riley's sister, won the Championships in International Trap and HOA Champion in International Events.
Beckham also placed second in Whiz Bang, third in American Skeet and garnered a sixth in Open Division Modified Trap.
Beckham, teamed up with Coleton Trenkelbach and Rowdy Dean, to take a second in Three-Man American Skeet and a third in Three-Man American Trap.
Individually, Dean also placed fifth in Modified Trap and Trenkelbach won the day as the Intermediate Division's state Sporting Clays championship and placed fourth in American Skeet.
Collectively, the program was recognized with two prestigious awards.
The first was the 2019 County of the Year Award for outstanding sportsmanship and community service and the second was the 2019 Gene Schiller Award.
The Schiller is for Overall County Excellence in Shotgun Shooting Sports with the Highest Team Average.
