The Hill Country Veterinary Hospital will host the county’s second vaccination clinic this month. On Tuesday, Aug. 27, pet-owners can bring in their animals for a $10 rabies shot.
During the first clinic, held July 13, 249 dogs and cats and one horse were vaccinated against the deadly virus. Bandera County Rabies Control Officer Dr. Conrad Nightingale organized the event in response to an extreme high number of reported rabies cases in proximity to homes throughout the county. Six animals and one near the Bandera County line confirmed positive in as many months.
Since July, no more rabies cases have been confirmed, although some animals have been submitted for testing.
The Hill Country Veterinary Hospital is at 1413 State Highway 173 S in Bandera. One doctor will administer the vaccines from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., while another handles regular appointments.
