The Bandera Prophet
Youth Rodeo
There is free admission to the fifth and final Bandera Rodeo Club Youth Rodeo Series 2019, taking place this Saturday at Mansfield Park Arena.
Books open at 7 a.m. with action starting at 9 a.m. There are more than a few classes that have a bottleneck for the top spot, so everyone will be throwing caution to the wind to get that Hyo Silver buckle.
Bull riding books open at noon, with classes to start soon thereafter.
Cross-Country
Both Bandera and Medina will run in Comfort on Saturday. It will be the first meet for both schools that takes place in a regular format as both ran in the first annual Bobcat CC Relays last Saturday.
Football
Bandera will travel to Cole High School on Ft. Sam Houston to take on the Cougars. Cole is the school that current Bandera head coach, Joel Fontenot-Amadee, was the OC for the last few seasons.
The address is 4001 Winans Rd., San Antonio, TX 78234. As Cole is on Fort Sam, anyone over 18 will need to produce a picture ID to enter the base.
Bobcat fans will be on the road again, this time early Saturday morning, as the Bobcats travel to Bastrop for a 10 a.m. scrimmage.
Medina won't play on their home field until a Sept. 13, date with Winston on Senior Night.
Volleyball
Bandera will play in the Cornerstone tourney in San Antonio on Friday and Saturday and then host Blanco, Tuesday evening with a 4 p.m. start for the early matches.
The Lady Bulldogs will be in Comfort against the Running Deer next Friday.
Medina's Lady 'Cats will volley in Leakey Tournament Friday and Saturday and then head to Kerrville to take on Our Lady of the Hills on Tuesday at 5 and 6 p.m.
The Utopia Lady Buffs will venture into the Bobcat Den next Friday evening in an early 4 p.m. start.
Tennis
Bandera will open the season against Devine on Tuesday, Aug. 27. This is the only non-district game in the short season as district play opens on Sept. 5, against the Boerne Greyhounds.
After a decent spring tennis season with the underclassmen earlier this year, coach Ginger Frye is looking for a good showing by the team.
