Fall fun at library and legion

LAKEHILLS LIBRARY
The library invites the public to attend the 20th anniversary reception at the library on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served. They will celebrate 20 years of serving our community and honoring all those who made it possible.
Because of the reception on the 7th, the library’s monthly book sale will be the following Saturday, Sept. 14, with special deals on all books.
Also on Sept. 14, the library will host The Blueprint Process, a free photo developing workshop with Michael Tidwell, renowned photographer and chemist, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contact Michael at [email protected] for more information and to send him a photo he can turn into a negative for you to develop at the workshop.
The library will host the Community Garage Sale on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call or visit the library to reserve your booth now.
On Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Texas Writes, will have an author’s panel discussion and workshop. It is for all interested in writing, it is free, and refreshments will be provided. Writers from all over Texas are welcome. The panel will be made up of Texas authors who have been published. The authors attending are Donna M. Johnson and Naomi Shihab Nye. Sign up now at the library.
The library will continue the Children’s Reading every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

AMERICAN LEGION
The American Legion Post 410 will hold a Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Rent a table for $10, keep all the proceeds from sales. Baked goods, snacks and sodas available and all funds raised will go toward the Centennial Celebration. Contact the Legion to reserve your table, donate items, money or baked goods.
The American Legion Post 410 Centennial Celebration Dinner is for the community and is free of charge. All are welcome to enjoy a special meal and commemorate the Legion’s 100th birthday on Saturday, Sept. 14, in the Legion Hall.
The Legion is selling tickets for the drawing to be held at the Centennial dinner. One ticket is $10 and three tickets can be had for $25. Winners do not need to be present to win.
First Prize is a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta, valued at $2,000; Second Prize is an American Legion Centennial Coin Set, valued at $525; and Third Prize is a MasterCard Gift Card worth $250.
The Legion Post 410, located at 147 26th St. in Lakehills, is open to the public Fridays through Wednesdays, from 3-9 p.m., when they serve meals and provide entertainment for all ages. For information, call 830-751-3711.
CIVIC CENTER
The Civic Center is also looking for volunteers to help with the upcoming Cajun Festival. Volunteers will work two hour shifts and get free water or soft drinks. For information, call 830-751-2727 or email [email protected].
LAKE AND RIVER
The BMA opened the dam gate valves on Aug. 21 and the lake is going down quickly now.
On Thursday, Aug. 29, our Medina Lake level was 1061.32 feet. That is down 2.88 feet, which is 93.3 per cent capacity.
The Medina River had a flow of 22.4 cfs in Bandera, running 3.71 feet deep at the gage.
