Cajuns and writers star in Lakehills

LAKEHILLS LIBRARY
The library will host a Texas Writes Authors Panel Discussion/Workshop on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is free, open to the public and refreshments will be served.
Poet Naomi Shihab Nye will discuss living a life filled with poetry in “You Are Living in a Poem.”
Nye lives in San Antonio with her husband, writes young adult fiction, novels and songs, in addition to poetry.
Author Donna M. Johnson will speak on how to turn individuals into characters in “Writing Memoir: How to Turn People into Characters.”
Johnson lives in Austin with her husband and has written religious articles for the Dallas Morning News. Her book is Holy Ghost Girl, a memoir.
Writers from all over Texas are welcome. Call the library to register at 830-510-2777.

CAJUN FESTIVAL
The Cajuns are coming!
The Cajun Festival is Saturday, Sept. 28, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Lakehills Civic Center, 11225 PR 37, in Lakehills.
Five bands on two stages, dancing, fun for kiddos and amazing Cajun Gumbo, not to mention the competition between the cooks, make this a have-to-experience event for the entire family.
Parking is free, shuttles are provided and ATMs are on the grounds.

The Cajun Festival is looking for volunteers to help work at the festival on Sept. 28. Volunteers can work two-hour shifts and get free admission to the festival and free drinks while there. To volunteer, call 830-751-2727 or email [email protected].
PIPE CREEK PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
The P. C. Presbyterians will hold a Market Day on Saturday, Oct. 19, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the church grounds at 8589 Hwy. 16 S, Pipe Creek. In addition to the many vendors and the bake sale, they will have a Chili Cook-Off and are actively seeking participants. To compete, call Chris at 210-391-1629.
AMERICAN LEGION
The American Legion Post 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, it is open to the public Fridays through Wednesdays, from 3-9 p.m., when they serve meals and provide entertainment for all ages. For information, call 830-751-3711.
LAKE AND RIVER
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, our Medina Lake level was 1059.50 feet. That is down 4.7 feet, which is 89.2 percent capacity.
The Medina River had a flow of 14.3 cfs in Bandera, running 3.55 feet deep at the gage.
