Cindy Coffey announces for Bandera City Council
Hello my name is Cindy Lou Coffey and I am running for Bandera City Council. I have been a resident of Bandera since 2015, when I purchased my “fixer-upper.” I served on the city council during 2016 when the city experienced some very tough times. There were unique personnel issues, the drowning of a hero Marine and of course the flood of Memorial Day weekend.
My experience assisted the new city administrator during those times. As FEMA certified I was able to react quickly during the rain disaster by setting up the shelter, keeping the official record and serving as a point person for our many visitor’s immediate needs. Our city administrator utilized his firefighter skills to secure roads and keep our residents safe. It is because of this that I feel we as a city should partner with the county to have an “OEM.” This is an Office of Emergency Management where we can work in concert with a Plan A and Plan B to keep Bandera safe during disastrous times.
I am very familiar with Roberts Rules of Order and it is to be followed at Council Meetings which it is not. All residents and guests deserve to be heard on any issue including announcements. If I am elected we will create a YouTube Channel for the city’s meetings so you can watch them live or archived. You will also be able to submit a question on any item on the agenda by email to the city secretary that will be read and answered if required. The agendas will be posted online including all attachments. This is called government engagement and every resident and business owner deserves to be heard.
My experience supersedes any candidate running. I have policy and legislation experience. I am a problem solver and I maintain an open door for anybody with an issue regarding the city. I am a consensus builder and believe in community partnerships with organizations, government entities and local businesses. I own several properties in town including the corner of 11th and Cypress where we are restoring and bringing to life a wonderful property to become another destination within our community.
Growing up in Leon Valley since 1972, I don’t want to see Bandera become another Leon Valley, Leon Springs or even a Helotes. Growth crept in from the back door and none of these communities were ready and as a result they lost their hometown feel. Bandera is losing its hometown feel as more properties are for sale; businesses are not succeeding, no new job creation and nothing to help our kids graduating from high school. Another candidate and I share a vision on how to combat the last item which is important for graduates’ success.
I have the government experience to turn this city around and if you elect me with two individuals that demonstrate the same eagerness that I have then the sky is the limit. We don’t need to always raise taxes which put our seniors and middle class families in jeopardy instead we need to manage our city better for the benefit of our residents, businesses and our guests.
Thank you for your time and I welcome your support and vote. Email me: [email protected]
