Lady Bulldogs take two district championships in Llano

The Bandera Lady Bulldog varsity and JV cross- country teams won their respective championships at the District 28-4A meet in Llano on Thursday.
In the varsity race, Bandera and Johnson both had four finishers in the top ten and as they crossed the finish line, it became evident that either teams fifth place runner would hold the key to each teams finishing position.
Separated by just a single point, with Bandera at 24 points and Johnson at 25, Bandera's Elexis Pearson crossed in 13th place, well ahead of Johnson's Emily Polk, who was down the order in 29th place, giving the Lady Bulldogs their 12th district championship in a row, 37 to 54. Wimberley finished third with 81 points.
"All seven of our girls came away from the meet with faster times than previously ran on this course.
Six of them medaled individually as well," coach Brooke Ashcraft said.
The girls JV race was not in question as Bandera led the way with all five points earners finishing in the top seven spots to dominate the race, easily outdistancing second place Fredericksburg by 31 points. Bandera had the top three finishers in the race.
"In the JV race the Lady Bulldogs took charge immediately. Halle Rios and Kaitlin Doebbler worked together to push the front of the pack while Danielle Gonzales closed the gap during the second half of the race," Ashcraft said.
Bandera's next two runners finished in ninth and 14th in the 49 runner field.
Most of the JV teams had more than seven runners and Bandera was no exception with another seven competitors entered. They were; Gracie Wilson, Madison Gillaspie, Mia Ramirez, Noellia Guevarra, Emily Garcia, Tanna Flewellen and Araya Mendiola.
The Non-Varsity Senior Girls race had five entries and Bandera's Anna Guajardo, Caitlyn Watson and Ofelia Macias finished second, third and fifth, respectively.
The Bulldogs didn’t fare quite as well in the boys races with the varsity finishing in sixth and the JV in fourth place.
The varsity Bulldogs scored 135 points and were led by Ethan Brown in 14th place and Logan Dybowski in 18th place. Both have consistently been the teams top finishers.
The JV Bulldogs had three finishers in the top 20 with Juan Reyna the top dog for Bandera, finishing  in seventh, with Braden Cox and Cody Jureckzi finishing in 17th and 20th respectively.
The team scored 98 points, just two points behind third place Boerne, while besting Canyon Lake and Wimberley.
The Lady Bulldog varsity will head to Corpus Christi on Monday, Oct. 28 for the Region IV meet.
