Bandera's Lady Bulldogs cross-country team stood on the podium with a second place finish at the UIL Region IV Championships held at the Dugan Track and Soccer Stadium located on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Monday.
After winning their 12th straight district title in Llano, all the Lady Bulldogs wanted to do was avoid injury, finish strong and qualify to return to the state meet.
Bandera finished behind a strong Liberty Hill squad and ahead of 22 other teams while just edging out third place, Salado. Hays Johnson will also advance with their fourth place finish.
All of the Lady Bulldog runners finished in the top third in the field of 181 runners.
The top 10 individual finishers not on a top four team, also advance to run in Round Rock.
The 4A Girls championship will start at noon and the Lady Bulldogs will have some stout competition.
Besides the other three Region IV qualifiers, the Lady Bulldogs will see some familiar names on the entry list battling for a podium spot.
The three Region I powerhouses that finished ahead of Bandera at last year's state meet, Canyon, Decatur and Hereford, all qualified to return this year. Along with Argyle, Region II teams, River Oaks Castleberry, Celina, Sunnyvale and Sanger and Region III standouts, Alvarado, Huffman-Hargrave, Lorena and Gatesville, it will be a battle for the podium.
