It’s a Cowboy Capital Christmas in Bandera
Bandera, the Cowboy Capital of the World, stands alone as the quintessential cowboy town. Throughout December there are a variety of memory-making events scheduled that will enhance your enjoyment of the season.
The centerpiece event of the Cowboy Christmas season begins Friday afternoon, Dec. 6, at 4:30 p.m., at the Bandera County Courthouse on Main Street. The Bandera Business Association presents children’s choirs from around the area to perform holiday music, and students from the Pipe Creek Christian School will provide a Living Nativity honoring the season. Santa will also make an appearance on the lawn. Bring your cell phone and feel free to take photos.
Folks can stroll the downtown streets for Shopper’s Jubilee, a festive evening of merchant open houses complete with carolers, refreshments and strolling cowboys. Some shops are open until 8 p.m. Don’t miss out on the prizes you can win if you shop Bandera. Information will be available at local participating merchant stores.
Saturday morning, Dec. 7, shop Main Street for some great holiday buys and find a seat for the Holiday Christmas Parade beginning at 11 a.m. Grab some lunch and then visit the Bandera Visitor’s Center for a performance of the Bandera Cattle Company at noon and, if you miss it, again at 2 p.m.
Christmas activities shift into high gear beginning Dec. 14 with the annual Holiday Tasting Tea at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost is a $10 donation. Sample the delicious offerings created by members of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. A special cook book featuring many of the recipes featured at the event will be for sale for $!0. St. Christopher’s is at 403 State Hwy 173 N Bandera. Call 830-460-8583 for more information.
Also on Dec. 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., join the annual Singing in the Saddle, a Christmas caroling trail ride around Bandera. Originating at Bandera Boys and Girls Club next to City Park AT 8TH and Maple. There will be wagons available for non-riders, so plan to join in before heading back to the Boys & Girls Club for hot chocolate and cookies served from a chuck wagon.
Finally, plan to experience the final performance of the year by the Cowboys on Main featuring singers and the gunfighters from the Bandera Cattle Company on Dec. 29 from noon to 4 pm. Bring the kids and members of the Cattle Company will deputize them.
