Saving Medina Lake

LAMCOS
The Lake Medina Conservation Society, LAMCOS, has received a matching grant of $5,000. The grantors, Nancy and Casey Fox, will match all donations made before Dec. 31, up to $5,000, to raise funds to intensify the fight to permanently save Medina Lake.
The goal is $100,000 for lobbying efforts at the state level. A third of the funds have been met.
All donations will go to cover expenses. All LAMCOS members are volunteers.

LAKEHILLS AREA LIBRARY
Rhonda Bayless, a professional artist from Comfort, will exhibit some of her oil paintings during December. Her works are available for purchase.
Free math tutoring every Thursday, from 1 to 6 p.m., by a retired high school math teacher. Students must sign up at front desk for free tutoring.
Every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a Yoga class for all ages is available. Everyone should bring a mat and water.
Every Wednesday morning at 10:30 the library hosts story time for kiddos 2-5 years of age. It includes songs, games and crafts based in preschool curriculum.
The Writers Group will not meet in December.
The library will be closed Dec. 24-26 for Christmas.
All library programs are free and open to the public.
The library is located at 7200 FM 1283.
ALAMO RC&D
The next Senior Food Pantry is Friday, Dec. 20, from noon to 3 p.m.
The Fun & Fitness class is every Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to noon.
The next Sassy Granny Art Class is Wednesday, Dec. 18, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The next Senior Social is Friday, Dec. 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be a Christmas theme program honoring all our volunteers. They will celebrate December birthdays and anniversaries and there will be door prizes. A full lunch will be served, free to seniors and by donation to others.
All Alamo RC&D events take place in Faith Tabernacle, 7768 FM 1283.
PIPE CREEK CHRISTMAS TREE FARM
The Pipe Creek Christmas Tree Farm is now open for you to choose and cut your own Christmas tree. They are open daily from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., located at Hwy. 16 and Phil’s Rd., in Pipe Creek. Call 210-426-6191 or email [email protected] for more information.
AMERICAN LEGION
American Legion Post 410, 147 Legion Dr. in Lakehills, it is open to the public Fridays through Wednesdays, from 3 p.m. They serve meals on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays and provide entertainment for all ages. For information, call 830-751-3711.
LAKE AND RIVER
On Monday, Dec. 9, our Medina Lake level was 1055.39 feet. That is down 8.81 feet, which is 80.3 per cent capacity.
The Medina River had a flow of 20.8 cfs in Bandera, running 3.85 feet deep at the gage.
