Varsity Bulldogs nab first two wins of the season

Bandera Bulldog varsity boys basketball came back from the Thanksgiving break and made their way to Pearsall for the Maverick Classic Basketball Tournament last week.
After going 0-4 in earlier games, the team was looking forward to having a full roster with players that were involved in football finally joining the squad.
Bandera took on the Carrizo Springs Wildcats in the first game of pool play and lost a close 46-41 decision.
Things were looking up for Bandera as they bagged their first win of the season, a 65-54 victory over the Crystal City Javelinas.
Bandera dropped their next three games against  Dilley, 50-41, Beeville Jones, 61-40 and the host team, Pearsall, 60-29, who would be tournament champions.
With their 1-4 tournament record, the Bulldogs would play for the Bronze bracket championship, where they would beat the Javelinas once again, this time by a 71-41 talley.
Tyler Moore, a sophomore guard and one of those aforementioned football players, was named to the All-Tournament team.
"Moore was the spark plug that we needed in every one of our games. His hustle on both sides of the basketball and leadership on and off the court was very important and will be valuable to our success down the road. Overall, I learned a lot about myself and these young men during this tournament. These boys battled in six games over three days, taking many bumps and bruises along with some tough defeats, but they still managed to compete for each other and their community.
We didn’t get the results we wanted in wins, but we gained many lessons that I believe will help us moving forward, ” coach Carl Lee said.
No stats were made available as Lee was solo at this tournament because the Bulldog freshmen and JV teams were playing at other venues.
The varsity Bulldogs will head to the San Antonio ISD Tournament this Thursday and will open play against the 2019 TAPPS state champion, Antonian, at the Alamo Convocation Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
