Bulldogs score first win in a long time

The Bandera Prophet
With Bandera's last varsity boys basketball district win a fading memory, it was time for the Bulldogs to change things up and they did as the team found themselves in the win column with a 40-29 win over the Llano Yellowjackets last Friday.
It was Bandera's first win in 19 district games, the first since the middle of the 2017-2018 season against Canyon Lake.
The last games of the first round for district were interesting. Fredericksburg and Boerne, both 4-0, were pitted against each other, Wimberley and Canyon Lake, both at 2-2 were facing off with Bandera and Llano, both at 0-4, playing each other.
Bandera took a 14-11 lead into the locker room at the half, thanks to the Bulldogs better defensive efforts on the year as well as controlling the boards on both ends.
The Bulldogs found their offensive mojo in the second half, almost doubling their first half production with 26 points, and limiting Llano to just 18 second half points to cruise to their first win in 724 days, by coach Carl Lee's count.
“It felt good to get our first district win in a very long time against a very well-coached Llano team. Many of the current varsity players had not won a district game in their high school careers so it meant a lot to them and the first year varsity athletes to finally get over that hump.
I am proud of these guys for continuing to work hard and compete every single day in practice and at every game. With that being said, we still have a lot of work to do these final five games of the season.
Hopefully, it will end on a high note," Lee said.
The Bulldogs were led by Tyler Moore's 11 points with the trio of Trace Decker, Liam Demarchi and Gunnar Winkler adding another 18 points between them.
Bandera moves to 5-24 on the season and 1-4 in District 28-4A play.
After Friday night's games, the district standings sorted themselves out with Fredericksburg beating Boerne in overtime, 56-53, and Wimberley outscoring
Canyon Lake, 54-46.
