Lakehills Library Leanings

The Lakehills Area Library’s annual fundraiser was a rousing success. The Lakehills Civic Center was packed on Feb. 8 with people who came to support the library and enjoy the delicious Gerry’s Famous Chicken Spaghetti. The dessert table was crowded with those desiring the many homemade pies, cakes and cookies.
The beautiful gold and diamond necklace was won by Denise Vandendries of Lakehills, who was thrilled to get it. She said, “I will treasure it forever.”
Michael Tidwell’s lovely cyanotype was won by an anonymous bidder, who will donate it to the library.
At least one trip was sold and the buyers were happy to be able to enjoy their future plans and are excited about it.
The live auction was lively and prices were good throughout. The final tally of the funds raised will take place this week and will be reported as soon as possible, along with the winners of the two raffle items, the VISA card and the rifle.
Watercolor artist Linda Laura is exhibiting her paintings during February in the library.
Laura arrived in San Antonio as a teenager. She studied at the Warren Hunter School of Art and was the school’s first commercial artist. After graduation, she pursued a career in commercial art and worked in watercolors as a hobby.
Laura has had several one-man shows locally and she has participated in the Western Art Show. She is a member of the Helotes Art Guild.
Laura now lives in Pipe Creek and continues to record the beauty of the Hill Country with her colorful paintings. She can be reached at 210-378-5113 or gsgLL234@hotmail.com.
