All are invited to a Saturday Breakfast at Bandera Legion

What’s your definition of the perfect Saturday morning? How about strolling into a warm, friendly building that smells like syrup, bacon and coffee with country music playing in the background? How about a homemade breakfast that is served by veterans wearing the red, white and blue who will ensure you do not leave the “chow line” hungry? How about sitting down, eating your hot breakfast of sausage and biscuits as fast or slow as you like and savoring that bottomless coffee cup?
That’s what you’ll find at the Community Breakfast hosted by the Bandera American Legion Post 157 this Saturday, Feb. 22. Breakfast is served from 8 a.m. until noon at the hall at 205 12th Street across from the Western Trail Antiques and Mercantile.
The menu changes a bit each quarter, but always features pancakes, sausage gravy and biscuits, omelets to order with juice and coffee. Local “organic” eggs are donated by the dozens. This Saturday, you’ll also get to enjoy waffles and put warm cinnamon apples on top. And there is no charge for anything, but donations are accepted.
David Wayne will provide music throughout the morning: a USMC veteran and member of Post 157. There will also be information on hand about veteran benefits and the first raffle tickets for “Old”, i.e. 2017, and “New”, i.e. 2019, will be available.
“We do our best to be consistent with good, hot homemade food and a fun atmosphere, but also have something unique at each breakfast. We certainly hope there are Girl Scout cookies left in the area to sell during breakfast,” organizer and Public Affairs chairman Susan Junker said.
These quarterly breakfasts are community outreach events, and the public is encouraged to attend.
“Nearly everyone in the county is at least related or knows a veteran. This is not a fundraising event, but we do appreciate donations to cover the cost if participants are so inclined,” the Post Commander and County Veteran Service Officer said.
The Post has hosted these breakfasts for almost five years and is looking forward to celebrating its 100th anniversary in September 2020.
