After an executive session on Friday, the Bandera Central Appraisal District Board of Directors announced four applicants who will return to interview for the chief appraiser’s position.
“We were fortunate to have many applicants,” Board President Bo Mansfield said.
The public forum portion of Friday’s agenda was moved from the beginning of the meeting to after the executive session, which Rene Leith said looked look an attempt to stymy the public.
“If y’all want to make this a better board, to make this a better central appraisal district, y’all should start doing things differently,” Leith said.
Leith also asked the board to explain why the office was closed two-and-a-half days for a gas leak. She said cars belonging to upper management staff were in the parking lot, but not all employees were on site.
“In the spirit of transparency, the public should have an explanation,” Leith said. “All of this is really disturbing.”
Darcy Hasty asked for Mansfield to be recalled, claiming he is not eligible to serve on the board. She also said she performed a background check on current employees of the BanCAD, and urged directors to do the same.
Mary Brosius asked the board why the meetings are being held at the office when a large crowd is expected.
“You know there is a need for a bigger building,” Brosius said. “Why are people still standing out there today?”
Mansfield said the purpose of Friday’s meeting was to review applicants for chief appraiser, however he said the board intends to move future meetings to the BEC community room.
