Book some time at the Bandera Library
By Mauri Guillén Fagan
Bandera Library Director
March will be a very busy month at the Bandera Library. We have two author visits, a new artist in the gallery, a presentation for Texas History month and a brand new program. Stay tuned for more information.
Peter Swanson’s latest psychological thriller is Eight Perfect Murders. Bookseller and mystery enthusiast, Malcolm Kershaw, compiled a list of literature’s greatest and most unsolvable mysteries. He titled it “Eight Perfect Murders.” Years later, an FBI agent visits Malcolm’s shop looking for answers. He finds out that a series of murders that look an awful lot like the cases on Malcolm’s list have occurred. In his effort to help the agent in her search, Malcolm discovers the killer knows more about him than just his love of reading.
Bestselling author Sarah J. Maas has released a new fantasy novel for young adults. A young half-human named Bryce Quinlan is busy living her best life when a ruthless demon murders her closest friends. However, with the culprit behind bars suddenly the crimes begin happening again. Quinlan takes it upon herself to seek the true murderer and avenge her friends’ deaths. To do this, she must team up with a fallen angel hoping to use this opportunity to win his freedom from enslavement.
Mark Bittman, author of How to Cook Everything and veteran food writer, has now produced a book with health expert David Katz. How to Eat: All your Food and Diet Questions Answered is a clear and easy-to-read explanation to all our questions on what we should be eating and what is healthy food. Bittman answers questions like “what is the best diet?” Do calories matter? What are the best proteins, fats and carbs? Topics covered include meat and dairy, grains, alcohol and more.
Friday, March 6, will be our first Family Game Night at the library. Come with your families to enjoy board games from 5:30 - 7 p.m. On Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to noon, local author Karen Hoskelis will be here to talk about and sign copies of her novel Love Across Time. The same day, the Friends of the Library will also have their monthly Book Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday, March 21, the library will host another local author for a book signing. Joanne Kukanza Easley has written Sweet Jane, a novel about a woman who has spent her life running away from an ugly past. When her alcoholic mother passes away, she must return to the home she swore never to see again for the funeral. While confronting her past, she makes a stunning discovery about her family that makes her see her life and her problems through an entirely new lens. Easley will be at the library from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Fans of the library’s digital collection will be happy to hear about our recent enrollment in the Overdrive Advantage program. The Advantage program will identify Bandera Public Library patrons when they put a hold on an eBook or digital audiobook and push their hold to the top of the line. This means significantly less waiting time for holds. The library would like to thank the Friends of the Library group for their continued support.
Happy tales, y’all.
