Spring Break Festival at the Frontier Times and Natural History Museums

By Maggie Schumacher
Natural History Museum Director of Development

We are looking forward to an exciting Spring Break, March 9-15, for Bandera County. We are partnering with the Frontier Times Museum to encourage visitors to enjoy both museums while in the area. The Bandera Natural History Museum is able to offer our special Spring Break programs thanks primarily to funding from a Bandera Electric Co-Operative Foundation Grant. If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit the museum since we added the Marco Polo Sheep and Siberian Ibex, this would be a great time to see our new additions.

Spring Break Activities
The museum is open every day of Bandera’s Spring Break, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday from noon to 5.
Monday, March 9 - Dinosaur George – Laugh and Learn about your favorite dinosaurs.
Wednesday, March 11 - Happy Tails -Meet some exotic animals and their trainers, Anita and Mark Lenihan.
Friday, March 13 - Mulemanship by Paul & Alejandra Garrison- Learn about these versatile, intelligent and amazing long eared beauties.
Saturday, March 14 - Birds of Prey- Live demonstrations with hawks, owls, and other birds from the Last Chance Forever Sanctuary.
All programs start at 11 a.m. with regular museum pricing. If you are not a member or have let your membership expire, now is a great time to become a member and enjoy these Spring Break programs at no extra cost.

Field Trip Program
Our School Field Trip Program has reached a milestone: We now have all four of Kerrville’s Elementary Schools visiting and most are repeat visits. We have developed programs for each grade and follow state guidelines that review what students should learn in each grade. Teachers are also asked for their suggestions on topics to emphasize and we incorporate these suggestions into their tour. Our tour guides have done an excellent job of preparing for these visits. Their enthusiastic participation makes our school program memorable. For some students this is their first trip to a museum and we pride ourselves in showing them that learning can be fun. The HEB Tournament of Champions program has given us a grant to fund scholarships for our public - school students making it more affordable for classes to visit.

The museum is at 267 Old San Antonio Hwy, Bandera. Call 830-328-5090 or go to www.banderanhm.org for more information.
