Lakehills Library Leanings
By Vicki L. George
The Bandera Prophet
The library will be closed all week. The tentative plan is to reopen Monday, March 23. However, it all depends on the health concerns over the Corona virus. The library will follow the lead of the Bandera Independent School District. If the schools remain closed, the library will also remain closed.
Even though they will be closed to the public, the director has announced that the free WiFi will be available in the parking lot. Also, if a patron wants a book or DVD, one of the staff will be able to hand it to the patron through the door. The staff will be there to take care of routine chores but they ask the volunteers to enjoy their week off. They will keep everyone posted on Facebook and their website: lakehillslibrary.org.
Valerie Moore is our artist of the month with her beautiful oil paintings. Her exhibit will remain in the library until April 4 for your enjoyment.
Moore hails from Kerrville and is a Real Estate Broker by day. She paints for relaxation and finds pleasure in recording the scenery of the places in which she has lived or visited. The scenes she has captured include New Mexico, Colorado and our own Texas Hill Country.
Moore’s works are available for purchase. She can be reached at 830-343-4040 or [email protected]. She is pleased to work with clients to provide custom paintings.
A Mosaic Class, with Sherry Hearn, will begin Thursday, March 26, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. More information will come soon.
The Women’s Self-Defense Class meets the fourth Saturday, March 28, from noon to 2 p.m. It is for females only, age 16 years and up.
The Daytime Book Club meets the last Tuesday of the month, March 31, from 1 to 2 p.m. This month the book is The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski.
Storytime for the pre-school kiddos is every Wednesday at 10:30. It includes fun games, songs and crafts to stimulate learning and friendship.
Free math tutoring is available with Fred Metzinger, retired high school teacher. His specialty is high and middle school pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and college prep. He is available on Thursdays, from 1 to 6 p.m. Students must sign up at the front desk of the library.
All classes and group meetings are free and open to the public.
The library is open Monday and Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located at 7200 FM 1283. The phone number is 830-510-2777. They can be found on Facebook.
